Wen Ting Wan is a feminist artist based in Singapore, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Fine Art at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Her artistic practice revolves around painting, sculpture, and mixed media, with a focus on themes of identity, gender, and societal norms. Through her work, Wen Ting explores the emotional and lived experiences of women, particularly across generations, using both traditional and digital techniques to create pieces that invite reflection and dialogue.

Her art often reflects personal narratives, as well as collective stories, confronting issues such as sexual harassment, body image, and societal expectations. With a conceptual approach, Wen Ting believes in engaging her audience, creating interactive experiences that provoke thought and foster empathy. By delving into themes that are deeply rooted in her own life and the broader cultural context, she aims to challenge the stereotypes and stigmas surrounding women’s bodies and voices.

In addition to her creative practice, Wen Ting has a background in Events Management, which complements her work as an artist, allowing her to engage with audiences in meaningful ways and create impactful, immersive experiences. Her art is an ongoing exploration of resilience, vulnerability, and the complexities of womanhood, with a deep commitment to raising awareness, sparking conversations, and celebrating the strength of women across generations.
As a feminist artist, my work seeks to amplify the voices and stories of women, spanning generations, and engage with themes of identity, trauma, and societal norms. Drawing deeply from personal experiences and collective narratives, I create pieces that challenge conventional representations of women while embracing the complexities of their lived realities. Through my art, I aim to not only speak to the resilience of women but to also critically examine the ways in which their experiences are shaped by culture, history, and the body.

Through all my work, I aim to create spaces for dialogue that are not only feminist but also intersectional, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationships to identity, power, and empathy. I believe that art has the power to be a voice for those whose stories have not been fully heard and my art is a call to resist silence, to honour our collective histories, and to celebrate the enduring strength of women in all their complexity, calling attention to the need for understanding and change.

Title: To Exist
Year: 2026
Medium: Latex Installation
Statement:

To Exist examines how women's bodies are regulated through everyday taboos, focusing on abjection and shame as socially produced mechanisms. Wen Ting is particularly interested in materials and bodily traces associated with impurity - hair, fluids and undergarments - and how their exclusion from shared domestic spaces reinforces norms of cleanliness, morality and femininity. Through studio investigations, Wen Ting explores how discomfort and disgust are projected onto natural bodily states and internalised as shame. Rather than idealizing the female body, this research foregrounds what is concealed or deemed inappropriate, questioning how boundaries between the acceptable and the taboo are constructed, maintained and normalised in everyday life.
